MEET JIN
Jin Woodman is one of the most exciting young athletes in international wheelchair tennis. Representing Australia in the Quad Division, Jin's journey in wheelchair tennis is shaped by determination, resilience and a genuine love of competition.
Rapidly progressed from becoming the World No. 1 junior, to competing against and defeating the best senior players on tour. At only 17, Jin has already competed at the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open. He trains at the Hume Tennis and Community Centre in Melbourne, backed by his family, his coaching team and the Maribyrnong Sports Academy.

First Ever Recipient
The Dylan Alcott Foundation gave Jin his first tennis chair. This was the springboard Jin's career has been built on.

National Champion
Jin won three titles at the Australian National Championships, confirming his status as the country's leading junior quad player and setting up his push toward a world ranking.

Jin reached the World No.1 junior boys ranking in 2025, the peak of his junior career and a stepping stone towards full-time senior competition.

First Grand Slam Match Win
Jin's senior breakthrough arguably began at home, with a win over Heath Davidson at his first Australian Open, the moment he first believed he belonged on the biggest stages.

First Grand Slam Final
Jin reached his first Grand Slam final, partnering Sam Schröder in the quad doubles — another marker of his progression from elite junior to major-event contender.

British Breakthrough
Jin started by winning the Eastbourne singles title (def. world No. 2 Sam Schröder), a British Open final at Roehampton (def. world No. 1 Niels Vink), and a first Wimbledon doubles final.

US Open 2026
Jin's Grand Slam success continued in 2026 partnering with Sam Schröder to become the first pair to overhaul the No.1 pairing in 2026, winning the US Open Doubles final in a thriller 6-3 2-6 10-7.
JIN'S STORY
FOCUSING ON WHAT IS POSSIBLE
Jin was born with an extremely rare inherited neuromuscular condition, Scapuloperoneal Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SPSMA), caused by a mutation in the TRPV4 gene. Fewer than 30 cases have been described worldwide.
Rather than allowing his condition to define him, Jin has focused on what he can achieve. Every challenge has strengthened the resilience, patience and determination that underpin his approach to both sport and life. Every tournament, every training session and every international trip is another opportunity to grow, not only as an athlete, but as a person.
Looking ahead, Jin's focus remains firmly on the future: continuing to develop as a player, representing Australia on the world's biggest stages and inspiring more young people with a disability to believe that they can also pursue ambitious goals.

One of Melbourne's leading specialist sports academies, MSA has supported Jin across a significant stretch of his development, helping him balance elite training with school and personal growth. The academy has a strong track record, having produced professional athletes across a range of sports over its history.

Jin's Training Base
Jin trains out of Hume Tennis and Community Centre in Craigieburn — Australia's first recognised wheelchair tennis hub — with access to coaching, strength and conditioning, and a strong training-partner community.
Currently coached by Tim Connelly, with more than 40 years experience in tennis, Tim has supported Jin for the past year, travelling with him and supporting his technical, tactical and personal development.
